And it's a rightfully deserved honor!!
After taking a very different route in promoting her brand new album, Sia has officially landed at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
"1000 Forms of Fear" also garnered the singer/songwriter her best sales week YET with 52,000 units sold in its debut.
Sia spent the weeks leading up to the release performing "Chandelier" on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show" as well as "Late Night with Seth Meyers". The performances caught everyone's eye when Sia chose not to face the crowd, instead having dancers speak for the song itself. For the Ellen (and Jimmy Kimmel performance, Sia and "Chandelier" video star Maddie Ziegler recreated the now iconic video. As for Seth, Sia laid down on a bed while "Girls" star Lena Dunham donned a blonde bob wig and danced throughout the track.
Sia kickstarted the brilliant promotional run with a November Billboard magazine piece, in which she appeared with a bag over her head and it said:
"This artist is responsible for over 12 million track sales … and doesn't want to be famous." -
Those 12 million track sales are thanks to her co-writing such tracks as:
Britney Spears' "Perfume", Rihanna's "Diamonds", and Beyonce's "Pretty Hurts".
Speaking as someone who has listened to the album non-stop since it's July 8th release, it is a heavy contender for album of the year at this point. I'll be shocked if anything surpasses it.
CONGRATS to Sia and her entire team for this brilliant album, and I can't wait to see what she does next!!
Check out Sia's performances leading up to the release (including the brilliant Logo Awards as well)
