PopGoesTheArts Emmy Rant: The Snubs Of 2014
Posted on 3:29 PM by jackline
I'm not impressed.
I'M NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL.
This morning, the 2014 Emmy nominations were revealed, and once again, the Television Academy showed how predictable they truly are by omitting some series names from the lists.
Now, of course this rant is MY opinion, but I'm sure you'll find others on Twitter that are just as furious over these.
Ready for me to go on a bitch fest?
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
DEAN NORRIS (Breaking Bad)
The biggest omission of all, in my lovely opinion. When you look at the final season of "Breaking Bad", it belonged to two men:
Bryan Cranston (who scored a nod for Lead Actor) and Dean Norris, who plays his brother in law Hank. Norris has always been great in the role of the DEA agent brother in law, but the material he was given in the final season was STELLAR and he nailed every single scene. I will always be a fan of Aaron Paul and his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman (Aaron got a nomination as well) but Norris stood toe to toe with Cranston this year and deserved a damn nod.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
TATIANA MASLANY (Orphan Black)
I shouldn't act surprised that the Emmy voters snubbed the Critic's Choice Awards winner for the second year in a row, but I'm still pissed. The woman plays multiple roles with such ease and perfection that it's a travesty that she's gone unnoticed AGAIN. Ridiculous.
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series:
TARYN MANNING (Orange is The New Black)
The ladies of OITNB got a whole lotta' love in this category (Laverne Cox, Uzo Aduba and Natasha Lyonne) and 2 of them were worthy. Sorry Natasha. The third slot SHOULD have gone to Taryn Manning as Pensatucky because let's face it, she was HYSTERICAL in the first season.
EVERYTHING
Sons of Anarchy - Season 6
Look, I'm quite aware critics just don't seem to love my favorite biker drama anymore, but this is some serious bullshit. Not a single acting nomination, no writing, NOTHING. It managed to score a nod in the music department, but let's face it:
NOTHING.
This was Maggie Siff's swan song season, and after scoring a Critic's Choice nod, nothing went further. Charlie Hunnam and Katey Sagal turned in some stellar work this year as well, but STILL nothing. Maybe the final season this year (making it eligible NEXT year) will change this.
Those are my biggest beefs with this years nods.
What are some of yours???
