It's finally arrived.
The final season of "Sons of Anarchy" kicked off last night, and I don't know about you, but I'm still reeling from it. I should have known to expect the unexpected because it's the final season and all....
But SERIOUSLY!?
Yours truly is going to be here for the full final ride everyone, so let's start talking about last night's stellar episode "Black Widower".
Following the heartbreaking finale of Gemma brutally murdering Tara in cold blood, the season picked up only 10 days later, with Jax in jail.
He wasn't doing time for the guns though. With Tara dead, the deal her and Jax made with Patterson died as well, and he was only behind bars as a suspect in her murder. Patterson realized he had absolutely nothing to do with it, and he was released. The opening montage of Jax getting into guest star Marilyn Manson's good books by viciously beating that inmate was absolutely disgusting. Sutter is never one to shy from the violence, but this was insane.
We're seeing a very different Jax this season, and I attribute all of that to Charlie Hunnam. The once caring, thoughtful man is long gone and what remains? I'm not sure exactly.
The light behind his eyes is gone, and darkness remains. Do we blame the time he's spent as the president of SAMCRO.....or the actions of his mother? Hang in there, I'll get to that.
With Jax trying to forge new alliances once on the outside, he had to deal with Nero's association with Alvarez (Mayans) and Henry Lin (Chinese). Jax seemingly wanted a sit-down to discuss the future of both organizations now that August Marks had control of the guns, the Irish and Oakland.
He also had to deal with the return of his ex-wife Wendy, who checked herself out of rehab to help Gemma with Abel & Thomas in the wake of Tara's death. I firmly believe that Wendy, for the first time in the series' run, is not out for herself, but for the boys best interests.
Our first interaction between Gemma and Jax was almost too painful to watch, as she told her son how awful Tara's death was and Jax told her he needed her more than ever. He "loved" her and needed her help. Anyone feel completely nauseous during that scene? I know I'm not alone....
We also got a glimpse into the pain that Juice is feeling.
The seemingly ex-SAMCRO member is in hiding in Wendy's apartment (and once she found out, she's staying with Gemma) due to his revealing Darvany's death to Nero, and Jax admitting to him last season that he had betrayed him. Little does Jax know, there's much more to Juice's deception. A conversation between Gemma and Juice painted Juice in the most negative light. It appeared that Gemma wants him out of Charming to keep him safe, but we all know it's to keep her part in Tara's death quiet as well. Unfortunately, Gemma and Wendy weren't the only ones who knew where Juice was....
Wayne discovered Juice was hiding there, and was then taken hostage by a gun toting Juice. I have to admit that I thought Juice was going to kill Unser right then and there.
Things were about to get messy though.
On false information from Gemma (of course), Jax was led to believe that the Chinese ordered the hit on Tara, in retaliation for the massacre they took last season. Jax then had one of their members abducted and brutally murdered him in the closing moments of the episode. As violent as it was, it's what came before that that needs to be discussed.
In Jax's house.....in the kitchen.....where Tara was brutally murdered, Gemma began talking to the spirit of Tara. She says that she doesn't believe Wendy is trying to replace her (or herself) and trusts Wendy....
For now.
This scene was so chilling because it's proving how far gone Gemma is. Standing in the exact spot where she killed Tara, Gemma is seemingly not feeling anything for what she did. Or is she? After leaving Jax to dispose of the innocent Lin member, Gemma returned home and broke down in Nero's arms. He just has no idea why.
The final moment of the episode came, after Jax had almost completely ripped apart the innocent man, he grabbed a carving fork.....and drives it into the skull of the young man. What made the scene so exceptional was not Jax's actions and how far gone he was, but the reactions of Bobby, Chibbs and Tig. They finally got a glimpse into how thirsty for revenge Jax is. All of this transpired because of the lie Gemma fed Jax, and not only did she cause him to murder an innocent man....
She's also set in motion a war.
The premiere was filled with the classic violence we've all come to expect from Kurt Sutter, and while I had a few tiny issues, it absolutely delivered.
This season is going to be a long journey for Jax and the club, and it's going to be very interesting to see where things go.

SOME NOTES:
1. I have to reiterate how chilling it was to hear Gemma talk to the spirit of Tara while standing in the SPOT WHERE SHE KILLED HER. Is Gemma slowly losing her mind? I mean, crumbling in Nero's arms just minutes later makes it appear that way.
2. I may have an ounce of love for Juice somewhere, but if he hurts Unser? That's gone. (On a separate note, thank you to Kurt Sutter for the shot of Theo's ass in this episode. It was welcomed).
3. How many more deaths at Jax's hand until he discovers the truth?
4. I hope we haven't seen the last of DA Patterson. CCH Pounder has been exceptional in the role and her prison scene with Charlie Hunnam was Emmy worthy.
5. My tiny issue with the episode? How AWFUL was that wheelchair being dragged scene?! Sutter rarely disappoints with his action scenes, but this was just ridiculous.
